Gods will vs our own will

1 John 5:14 “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.”

Sometimes when were in a dark place we pray for things that will make us temporarily happy and that just sets us up for another dark place. If we keep an eternal perspective then we can trust God because we know our future is in his hands and because he sent Jesus to save us we are bound for an eternity of happiness in heaven with our savior. To get yourself out of the dark place do not pray for a temporary fix but pray that you see the work that God is doing in your life so that you can do your part in his divine plan. In scripture God has never asked us to live our own plan because that would be putting ourselves above God, but what he has asked us is to live his will and anything we ask “according to his will” shall be given to us. Where our will is weak Gods will is strong and where our will lacks depth Gods will for us is deeper then the ocean and wider then the universe but our human perspective is to weak to even imagine the beauty God has destined for us.
As children of God we must realize that we were not made to live our own plan because we are filled with sin and with sin comes an ending of death but if we allow ourselves to fully live Gods plan then we are on the path of life with an ending of eternity. Now which one sounds better? Who is more trustworthy ourselves or the all-knowing, creator of all, and forever loving God. To me the answer is easy, God has never let anyone down ever so to think he will let us down is foolish. Jesus has promised us that if we believe in him then Gods will for us is everlasting “For this is the will of God, that every one who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.(John 6:40)”
The will we have for ourselves is one that only has to do with this life, but the will God has for us is one that extends into heaven to live forever in a place where you will forever be safe. How great of a promise has Jesus made us that when we put our full faith in Him that we can live forever without worry because we know that Gods plan for us is a part of his great story of redemption.
An important part of Gods will is to live a Christ driven life one filled with love and forgiveness as God has loved and forgave us. Allow yourself to go to God humbly and ask that he allows you to see that your feet are on his path and that your steps direct you towards him. When you recognize Gods will for us then you recognize that doing the right thing is not only good but it is the way of wisdom.”For it is God’s will that by doing right you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.(1 Peter 2:15)”
Just as Jesus and his followers were looked down upon by the foolish so too will we as believers, but if we recognize Gods will for us then we see that persecution comes at us as a test of faith and we are all part of Gods plan for ultimate redemption. In any situation you may face keep the faith in our savior cemented in not only your heart but your soul and allow the gracious hand of God to keep you on the path he has predestined for us.

God bless and remember that faith as a word is weak but as an action and cemented thought faith in God can conquer your life and set you up for your eternal life with our creator.

      • Ur funny. checking to see if i read the article, i like that. but u said, “To me the answer is easy, God has never let anyone down ever so to think he will let us down is foolish”. I grew up in the church, but left in teens, but at one point in my life, I didn’t want to hear abt God. Now I can’t do without him. its poignant b/c many ppl stay loss. 🙂

  6. When we get into dark places, we must allow God to bring us out.

As God warns us in Isaiah 50:11 (NKJV)
Look, all you who kindle a fire,
    Who encircle yourselves with sparks:
Walk in the light of your fire and in the sparks you have kindled—
This you shall have from My hand:
You shall lie down in torment.

God will allow us to do what we want to do, but it will certainly not be the solution to our problems. The situation will just get worse and we will find ourselves further from God, if we try to do it ourselves. Self help projects are temporary and lead to feelings of hopelessness and discouragement. Allow God to do it His way!

  7. I had a revelation about this same topic during a Young Adults service a few weeks ago:
Romans 8:26 tells us that the spirit of God makes intercession (intervening on our behalf, stepping in to help) for us while we pray. We could mention 10 things all in the same prayer, but if only one of those things is in God’s will for our lives, that is the only thing He will intercede for, and cause to come to pass.

If we really consider it, we really have to thank God when we pray about something and we don’t see it happen. It means it’s not in His will for us. I would prefer God saving me from something I wasn’t supposed to have, rather than Him giving it to me, and me struggling to manage it for the rest of my life.

  8. Right, so next step is how do we find God’s will? I heard it put as ‘the big 7’ – the Word, the voice of the Word, direct revelation, Godly counsel, open and closed doors, desires (burdens), and fleeces. It would be interesting to hear some specific examples of how people find that. Here is mine: I was living in Texas at the time and I had a choice to fill a job in California or one in Amman, Jordan. I made my list of pros and cons and they came out about even. I wasn’t getting the answer that way, though I am sure was part of the process. During the day, I had this kind of vision where I saw a golden staircase going to the East. Then a while later, I saw the crescent moon and the star symbol shining. I took it to mean I was to go to Jordan. The staircase was leading east from Texas, which would mean Jordan of course. The fact that it was golden signified a ‘golden opportunity’ and the crescent moon and the star to me represented Islam and Christianity shining in the same place, which would also indicate Jordan. I did go to Jordan and I am so glad I did. I lived there 6 years and had a great time with some wonderful opportunities.

  9. Thank you for visiting my blog. I hope you will continue to find it interesting.
You explained this quite well. I posted it to Fb & reblogged. There’s always a battle going on between what I want and what God wants. Of course, you know He always wins.

    • I really am thankful that you shared it, I hope it can shed a little light on the topic for someone in need. Your right God always wins, we can’t be disappointed we didn’t get exactly what we want or prayed for because God always has something better for us than we ever even expected. God bless

  10. This piece is wonderful! By giving up our will for our lives and giving up control to God, we are acting in obedience. As beautiful as we think we can make our lives, God can make it better, if we let him. God bless you and continue to speak through you!
